This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me. Psalm 119:50
We seem to have been on a trial and affliction campaign for the last year. I believe you are as tired of it as I. The trial and affliction part anyway. Apparently we are not at the end. We must be slow learners. God is patient. What shall we learn or do or reason from all this.
Besides the reminders from your pastor that all affliction and trials are for our endurance to completion. There is something else I want you to see. We find comfort in them from God’s word.
When we read and study the Word. We find in it instruction, reproof, correction, and training. (2 Timothy) All four of these categories do something for us. They improve our life (if of course you’re desiring to walk with God). In one particular area concerning trials and difficulties the word brings comfort to us. How so?
First of all we must believe in the word in order to trust the word in order to read the word. I believe and have come to know that God can answer any question I might have, simply from His written word. I have come to believe His word because it has proven itself to me over and over again. God’s word never fails. Since I believe God’s word, now I know I can trust God’s word. His word to us involves His promises to His children.
I can rest well at night knowing that man nor the world can do anything to me which my heavenly Father does not allow. I believe it, I trust it !!! Therefore, His written word and promises in it, bring comfort to me even in the face of danger and difficulty.
Now I can say with confidence as did the psalmist -
“This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me.”
Today – give thanks to God for His word.
His written word –
His spoken word –
and His living Word.
JESUS
