He will turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the hearts of the children back to their fathers… Malachi 4:6a
Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there. Today is a recognized as a day in which we celebrate those who raised us. This is a day to reflect and appreciate the sacrifices made by our fathers on our behalf. Thank you, fathers.
In the verse above Malachi describes a future where fathers and sons will once again spend time with each other. The point is that fathers and sons would no longer live self-serving lives, but fathers will take their sons to heart and sons will take to heart their fathers, considering the effects of their actions on one another in the course of their lives.
What a fantastic day that will be. When fathers and sons live for each other. Today it seems we are too busy to take the proper time to instruct our sons. We certainly teach them how to work often reaping the benefit of that. However, we seldom teach them how to play, to relax, to enjoy life. We seldom teach them about love and what to expect. Most generally we allow them to discover it on their own, which seldom leads to anything good.
If left to themselves our sons will struggle with life at large. They will make mistakes which will cost them greatly. They need not only an earthly father, but even more so a heavenly One. Malachi is showing us the key to their success is found in Scripture. Malachi is saying, The key to reconciled families is that we obey God’s Word. It sounds so simple; yet for the father it will take a scheduled effort on your part. So schedule it!!!
You will find your son longing to spend time with his dad. And there’s no better place to spend that time then in the Word of Life. Create a hunger for it with your son, and the rewards will go far beyond this world.
